Who we are

Purpose
Neχus is a community of Christians that seek to assist immigrants and refugees in the Stafford County area by helping them to connect to people and resources they need to begin their new lives here in Virginia. This includes learning English, adapting to American culture and getting started in their new homeland. We believe that the greatest connection we can help someone make is to know God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Goals
Neχus
wants to

  • Assist our friends by helping them learn English well.

  • Develop friendships that go beyond the classroom.

  • Help newcomers to become US citizens.

  • Offer practical assistance as needs arise.

  • Help our friends see the majesty and experience the love of Jesus Christ.

Who We Are
Our volunteer staff are made up of believers in and followers of Jesus Christ. We are compelled to love our neighbors as Christ loved us. We come from different backgrounds and with varied experiences, but we all share in our belief in Jesus as the one who ‘conneχ us’ with God and who links us together. He is our ‘Neχus’ to and with our neighbors.

Neχus Coordinators
Mark & Cindy Irwin are Americans that have lived and worked overseas for nearly four decades and are acutely aware of what it means and feels like to be a foreigner in another land. They have experienced many things that newcomers to the US also encounter and are ready to help them adapt and connect to life here. Mark & Cindy have had to learn a new language everywhere they have gone and therefore understand the challenge that immigrants face in learning English and new customs in the US.
